September 2, 2011 * Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]Work is underway to begin installing the new carpet ski lift at Brookvale Winter Activity Park in time for this year’s ski season, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey. “Our provincial parks are not only a great way to explore Prince Edward Island’s picturesque landscape, they also help Islanders lead more active lives,” said the minister. “The Prince Edward Island government is pleased to support our rural communities and improve services for Islanders, through projects such as this new ski lift.” After the ground has been prepared, workers will begin to install pieces of the 140-foot long ski lift. It’s expected the lift will be in place by November. The new carpet ski lift will replace the handle tow on the training run. A carpet lift is a belt placed along an alpine run that moves skiers more easily up the hill. The Prince Edward Island government is investing $175,000 in the project.Media Contact: Mary Moszynski
