Residents of Kinkora are benefiting from recent upgrades including the construction of a new residential subdivision and improved sewer lines, thanks to investments made under the Building Canada Fund and Build PEI.
“The Government of Canada recognizes that infrastructure investments are essential to stimulating the economy, creating jobs and improving our environment,” said The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue, on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie.
“We are pleased to work with provincial and municipal partners to strengthen the social and economic well-being of Kinkora.”
Through this investment, the Community of Kinkora was able to construct a new residential subdivision off Somerset Road. Houses are now being built on the ten municipal lots that were developed. As a result of this project, upgrades were also made to deteriorating concrete sewer lines, replacing them with new sewer mains.
“Helping our rural communities with their infrastructure needs goes hand in hand with our Rural Action Plan,” said Prince Edward Island Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Ron MacKinley. “These investments will help this rural community grow and will allow that growth to happen with the proper infrastructure in place.”
The Government of Canada, under the Building Canada Fund - Communities Component, the Government of Prince Edward Island, under Build PEI, and the Community of Kinkora made a combined investment of more than $513,000 in these infrastructure improvements.
“The development of this new subdivision, along with upgrading our lagoon and sewer lines, is allowing us to prosper and grow as a community,” said Mr. Roger Savoie, Chairperson for the Community of Kinkora. “Our mandate, as a community council, is to continue to move forward and we are thankful to partner with both the federal and provincial governments to help us reach our future goals.”
