Facility and equipment upgrades to three projects in Tignish help build stronger rural communities, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair.
“Investing in these projects is essential to building a stronger local community,” said Minister LeClair. “The provincial government, through its Rural Action Plan, is strongly committed to supporting projects to strengthen community organizations that provide needed facilities and services to rural residents.”
The total cost of the three projects is $160,000. The provincial government is contributing approximately $138,000, with the community sponsors providing approximately $22,000 overall.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 in Tignish needs some equipment upgrades to provide better service to users of the facility. The total cost of the project is $31,000. The Island Community Fund is contributing $17,000 to this project.
The Tignish Fire Department is the EMS hosting site for the area. As a result, the building requires some minor upgrades to accommodate the EMS staff and also make the building more energy efficient. The total cost of the project is $37,000. The Island Community Fund is contributing $33,000 to this project.
The Tignish Heritage Inn and Gardens is in need of modernization and upgrading of equipment and facilities. The total cost of this project is $92,000. The Island Community Fund and Skills PEI is contributing $88,000 to this project.
“I'm very happy to be part of a project that helps Islanders gain valuable job skills and experience while helping preserve and improve an important community property," said Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell.
“These projects support important facilities that serve Tignish and the surrounding area,” said Mr. LeClair said.
The Island Community Fund is a six-year $27.5 million program established by the provincial government to address infrastructure needs with a focus on rural communities.
