A new fundraising campaign launched by the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) and the Canadian Red Cross is contributing $49,403 to programs and services in Prince Edward Island.
“Initiatives like this one for the Canadian Red Cross are true examples of how our Island community can provides support,” noted Robert Vessey, Minister responsible for the PEICC. “The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission was very pleased to be able to help collect these donations that will go toward funding key programs and services of the Red Cross across the Island.”
Customers were encouraged to make donations at PEILCC retail outlets across the Island in support of this effort. “We are extremely happy with the success of this campaign,” noted Laura Johnson-Montigny, PEI provincial director of the Canadian Red Cross. “The funds raised exceeded our expectations and will be very helpful when assisting Islanders in time of need.”
The money will support the work of Canadian Red Cross volunteers who immediately come to the aid of Islanders impacted by fires, floods or any other small- or large-scale emergencies or natural disasters, or deliver other services ranging from free loans of health mobility aids like wheelchairs or crutches to educational programs on water safety, bullying and violence prevention, and humanitarian issues.
