Province expresses concern about reports of planned closure of federal processing centre

Premier's Office
The provincial government is expressing deep concern about a planned closure of the Service Canada processing centre in Montague, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“The suggestion that Service Canada operations in Montague may be reduced or eliminated is unacceptable,” said Premier Ghiz. “The federal government was elected with a mandate to serve all Canadians, and this proposal will do little to reassure Islanders that the federal government is in tune with their interests.”

Premier Ghiz has written a letter to federal Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Diane Finley, to express the Island’s concern.

The move to consolidate operations would leave Prince Edward Island as the only province in Canada without a Service Canada processing centre.
