The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission and Canadian Red Cross has launched a one-month fundraising campaign to support local Red Cross programs that benefit all Island residents. During the month of July, customers have the opportunity to make a donation with their purchase at any PEILCC retail outlet.
“We are fortunate to have the assistance of the Canadian Red Cross in times of need,” noted Hon. Robert Vessey, Minister Responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “Being able to generate funds that can help Island residents in times of need is an opportunity we are very pleased to support.”
Customers of the PEILCC have given generously in the past to Red Cross relief efforts for major international disasters such as the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
“Funds raised through the July campaign are not for international responses but rather for right here at home, where our disaster volunteers help fellow Islanders in situations ranging from a family losing their house to a fire, to events with community-wide impact like an ice storm, hurricane or storm surge,” said Laura Johnson-Montigny, PEI provincial director of the Canadian Red Cross.
Some funds raised will also support other key programs and services across the Island, from free loans of health mobility equipment like wheelchairs, to the summer camps that teach our children life-saving swimming and water safety skills, to anti-bullying and other violence and abuse prevention programs offered by the Red Cross.
PEILCC patrons have the option of requesting a tax receipt for donations over $10 if they provide their name and address, which will be submitted to the Canadian Red Cross for processing following the campaign.
