All clients who receive Social Assistance and Disability Support will receive their June supports this week due to the possibility of mail disruption, says Minister of Community Services, Seniors and Labour Janice Sherry.
“We are committed to ensuring as little disruption in services as possible in the event of a strike,” said Minister Sherry. “We will also be informing Islanders of any further steps that will be put in place to allow them to receive or deliver mail to the government.”
The Department of Community Services, Seniors and Labour is working with Canada Post to ensure all monthly supports for June are delivered during Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27. Monthly supports are typically delivered on the first day of the month.
The Department of Community Services, Seniors and Labour has been encouraging clients and vendors of Social Assistance and Disability Support to take advantage of the direct deposit opportunity since early April 2011. About 25 per cent of the Department’s client base will receive their June 1, 2011 monthly cheque via direct deposit with more clients selecting this option everyday.
Participation in direct deposit is voluntary. Direct deposit forms are available at all location sites for any clients wanting to sign up for the convenient service.
