All Islanders are invited to join an Island-wide book club by reading Still Life by award-winning Canadian mystery author Louise Penny, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.
“Prince Edward Island’s public libraries play an important role in promoting literacy. One Book One Island is a fun, new initiative that will help foster an Island-wide discussion on reading,” said the Minister. “I encourage all Islanders to join their friends, family and neighbours in reading Still Life.”
Still Life is the first in the author’s best selling Chief Inspector Gamache series. In September, Penny will visit Prince Edward Island to discuss her book and celebrate the One Book One Island program. Penny will visit the Confederation Centre Public Library, the Montague Rotary Library, and the Bibliothéque publique J.-Henri-Blanchard in Summerside.
Copies of Still Life will be available from all 26 library branches in a variety of formats, in both French and English. The Public Library Service is also partnering with The Bookmark bookstore in Charlottetown on this new initiative. Copies of Still Life will be available for purchase from The Bookmark with a 10 per cent discount available to those presenting a P.E.I. Public Library Service library card.
Throughout the summer, the library website will be updated with news and information about One Book One Island. Author Biography
Louise Penny is the author of the international bestselling Chief Inspector Gamache novels. Her books which are set in Quebec have debuted on the New York Times bestseller list, and have won awards internationally including the British Dagger, the Canadian Arthur Ellis, the American Agatha, Anthony, and Barry awards. Louise made history in 2011 when she became a four-time consecutive winner of the prestigious U.S. Agatha Award for Best Novel. She is also the only Canadian to have won the literary prize. Her debut novel, Still Life, was named one of the “Top Five Crime Fiction Books of the Decade” by Deadly Pleasures Magazine.
