PEI Liquor Control Commission presents the 2011 Festival of Wines

The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission proudly presents the 2011 Festival of Wines taking place Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28 at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. This annual festival invites you to explore the exciting world of wine and to taste more than 200 limited-quantity wines from around the world, including this year’s feature country, Italy.

This year’s festival also includes award-winning wines from the first Annual Prince Edward Island Festival of Wines Competition. This juried event was conducted as a blind tasting and judged by eight accredited sommeliers from across Atlantic Canada. Award winners were selected in the following categories and will be available for tasting and purchase during the festival:

• Whites under $15

• Whites $15-25

• Reds under $15

• Reds $15-25 and

• Reds $25 and above

In addition to wine, visitors to this year’s festival can also enjoy culinary samples from the Redwater Rustic Grille, opening soon at The Holman Grand hotel.

“I am pleased that this year’s Festival of Wines will again support our local communities,” said Robert Vessey, minister responsible for the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission. “Local art will be available for viewing and purchase and I encourage everyone to participate in the annual silent auction supporting the Hospice Palliative Care Association of Prince Edward Island.”

The Festival of Wines consists of three tasting sessions:

Friday, May 27, afternoon, 3 - 5 p.m.

Friday, May 27, evening, 7 -10 p.m.

Saturday, May 28, evening, 7-10 p.m.

The official opening of the 2011 Festival of Wines is scheduled for Friday, May 27, at 6:45 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available to purchase from the Civic Centre box office or Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission retail outlets. Tickets for the Friday afternoon session are $35, with tickets to the evening sessions priced at $50.
