Hon. Michael Currie, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, announced today that the Hillsborough Bridge will officially open at 4:00 p.m. today, Thursday, July 16, 1998. All traffic improvements at the intersections will be functional and all four lanes of traffic will be open.
It is particularly noteworthy that a project of this size was completed on budget and ahead of schedule. "I'd like to congratulate Strait Crossing, their subcontractors and the staff of Department of Transportation and Public Works who worked under extreme summer and winter conditions to produce a job "well done," stated Mr. Currie.
"As well, I would like to express my thanks to the motoring public for their cooperation and patience during construction," said Mr. Currie.
It is anticipated that these major improvements to the Trans Canada Highway corridor will result in significant benefits to Eastern PEI, and in particular, the Town of Stratford.
