April 1, 2011 * Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]Residents and visitors will soon be able to fully enjoy one of Prince Edward Island’s most scenic drives when the Darnley Bridge on Route 20 re-opens to traffic, says Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Ron MacKinley “The short section of Route 20 that has been closed to allow the new $4.5 million bridge to be rebuilt is home to a fine seafood restaurant and one of the most beautiful drives on the Island,” said Minister MacKinley. The project began in early September. A detour was established and it has held up well over the winter. Crews expect to open the new bridge to traffic and remove the detour in mid-June. The Darnley Bridge replacement is funded through Build PEI. It is one of six major bridges replaced by the province in 2010-2011.Media Contact: Andrew Sprague
