March 3, 2011 * Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]An additional six high-powered snow blowers are headed to West Prince to help clear snow as crews continue to widen roads, says Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Ron MacKinley. “We now have 11 additional snow blowers working in West Prince,” said Minister MacKinley. “There are five additional provincial blowers headed there now as well as one from Strait Crossing Incorporated, who offered the machine to the province on Thursday. That’s in addition to five blowers sent there earlier this week which were provided by local contractors.” Crews have been working hard to clear snow from clogged roads all over West Prince. Some roads are still down to one lane. High winds and almost continuous snowfall haven’t allowed crews to make much headway. But the province is confident this extra machinery will make a difference over the coming days. “The forecast over the next few days looks good,” said Minister MacKinley. “We’re even expecting temperatures above freezing over the weekend. So we’re hoping the agreeable weather and the extra machinery will make a big difference for residents.”Media Contact: Andrew Sprague
