Island athletes have reached medal standing on the world stage this weekend, says Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram.

“Congratulations to these two outstanding athletes who are tremendous representatives for our province,” said Minister Bertram.

Olympic champions Heather Moyse from Summerside and team mate Kaille Humphries, won Canada's first-ever women's bobsled World Championship medal on Saturday. With a time of 3 minutes 26.74 seconds, Heather and Kaille earned the bronze medal at the World Championship in Konigssee, Germany.

Island paralympic athlete Mark Arendz from Springton, took home a silver medal at the IPC World Cup para-nordic event in Solleftea, Sweden on Friday.

“As the Canada Games continue this week in Halifax, we are seeing the next generation of Olympians emerge,” said Minister Bertram. “The accomplishments of Heather and Mark are inspiring and I wish them continued success in their careers.”
