Province recognizes library volunteers

* Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]
“Several well deserving community volunteers, who have made outstanding contributions to public libraries across the province, will be recognized as part of activities surrounding Canadian Library Month in October,” says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey. “Our community libraries are wonderful gathering places where Islanders come to learn, discover and connect with one another,” said Minister Vessey. “Volunteers help to increase creativity and community spirit as they work with library staff."

In many locations across the province, dedicated individuals support their local library with time and talent. A volunteer enhances library programs and services by reading stories, puppeteering, leading adult or junior library book clubs, arranging fundraisers and promoting the library in their community.

The individuals recognized this year are: Christine Batten - Alberton Public Library; Denise Conway - Crapaud Public Library; Marie Lavergne, Greg Robert Crawford and Crystal Waterman - Montague Rotary Library; Kristen Rose - Souris Public Library; Sarah Seeley - Stratford Public Library; Georgie Smith - Kinkora Public Library and Claudette LeClair - Tignish Public Library.

Individual volunteer awards will be presented at Public Library Service events being celebrated during Canadian Library Month in October.

Public libraries provide programs and services to people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. They offer a variety of resources (books, CDs, movies, magazines, Internet access) and programming to meet the diverse needs of patrons.
