Colville Manor Replacement Underway

Health and Wellness
Construction of the new Colville Manor in Souris is well underway, says Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram.

“I am pleased to announce that this new facility is on schedule to be completed in the fall of 2011,” said Minister Bertram. “It will be a new, modern facility, designed to meet the needs of our long-term care residents.”

The new Colville Manor will accommodate 52 residents. The design features four households with 13 residents living in each. All residents will have a private bedroom with washroom. Every household will have a dedicated living room, dining room, lounge and serving kitchen, as well as access to an outdoor courtyard. The central core of the building will contain support services such as the central kitchen, laundry, senior’s day programs, chapel and administration, which can be flexible to allow for large gatherings on special occasions.

“Government is committed to providing the most up-to-date facilities and programming to individuals with continuing-care needs,” said Minister Bertram. “Colville Manor is one of five provincial manors we are committed to replacing as part of our Manor Replacement Strategy which includes Maplewood Manor, Summerset Manor, Prince Edward Home and Riverview Manor.”

There are nine public nursing facilities on Prince Edward Island. Admission is based on a coordinated assessment and a priority needs process which is conducted by committees in each region and is made up of representatives from hospitals, home care, housing and long-term care programs.
