The Island Community Fund contributions to two projects in the central north shore area of Prince Edward Island will strengthen services and facilities for local residents, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair. He was joined by Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey in the announcement of funding to the North Shore Community Centre and the North Shore Community Fire Company.
“The Island Community Fund supports residents and organizations in rural communities and is an integral part of the Rural Action Plan,“ said Mr. LeClair. “I am pleased to join with the proponents of these projects to enhance the quality of local services and facilities.”
The Island Community Fund has provided $150,000 for the expansion of the North Shore Community Centre on the Covehead Road. The community council will contribute an additional $131,100. Funding of $18,200 has also been provided to the North Shore Community Fire Company to acquire a jaws of life. The fire company is contributing $6,100.
“I am pleased to congratulate the organizers of these two projects on their initiative in addressing community needs,” said Mr. Vessey. “They will help support the continued growth and development of this area and open up new opportunities to serve local residents.”
Mr. LeClair said the provincial government has made a strong commitment to supporting rural communities through the Island Community Fund. The fund is a six-year, $27.5 million program to address infrastructure needs in rural communities.
