Islanders can be very proud of the excellent participation and success achieved by Team PEI at the 2010 National Special Olympics Summer Games in London, Ontario, says Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram.
“Special Olympics exemplifies the spirit of fair play, excellence and inclusiveness,” said Minister Bertram. “I want to congratulate all the athletes, coaches and mission staff who represented Prince Edward Island so well at the Games.”
Under the leadership of Chef de Mission Charity Sheehan, Team PEI competed in softball, swimming, athletics, and 5-pin and 10-pin bowling. As a team, they had 20 medal winning performances and took home six gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.
“We are very proud of the 30 athletes who competed in these national games and brought home 20 medals,” said Minister Bertram. “It was an extraordinary opportunity for our athletes to showcase their skills and ability, and they certainly rose to the challenge.”
