The new O’Leary Health Centre will bring enhanced health care services to the community of O’Leary and surrounding areas, Premier Robert Ghiz and Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram announced today at a celebration to mark the opening of the new health centre.
“Government is committed to improving community-based services for the residents of O’Leary and ensuring Islanders have access to the highest quality health care,” said Premier Ghiz. “The opening of this centre marks another achievement as we continue to make integrated health system improvements across the Island.”
“Health facilities, such as this one, are the cornerstones of our rural health care delivery. They strengthen our programs and services, and improve access to quality care throughout our One Island Community,” said Minister Bertram. “The integrated services offered at the new O’Leary Health Centre will complement the successful work being done at the O’Leary Community Hospital in providing healthcare and support services to the west prince region.”
Government invested approximately $3 million in the new 14,700 square foot facility, which includes 16 exam rooms, an ambulatory care room, as well as offices and meeting rooms for physicians, nurses and staff. In this new location, primary care services including walk-in, ambulatory care, diabetes programs and community mental health programs, will be provided through a coordinated approach.
“We would like to thank the residents of O’Leary and the surrounding area and our dedicated staff and physicians for their patience while this significant project was completed,” said Health PEI Board Chair, Leo Steven. “This is an important step in our commitment to establish a more integrated and effective health care system.”
The new O’Leary Health Centre is now fully operational. It is located adjacent to the Community Hospital O’Leary at 15 MacKinnon Drive, O’Leary.
