Minister of Community Services, Seniors and Labour, Janice Sherry, expressed her condolences to family and friends of Martha McNab Fraser and John Murray Alexander Ewart, two well-known contributors to the Voice for Island Seniors, who passed away last week.
“It’s important to recognize the contributions of older adults on many aspects of Island life, including the arts, work force, volunteerism, family life and caregiving,” said Minister Sherry. “Seniors are our link to the past and we owe them a great deal of gratitude for building the society that we live in today. I believe that Martha and John are perfect examples of the valuable contributions seniors make to our social landscape and I would like to recognize the contribution they made to our One Island community.”
Both Martha and John contributed articles and served on the editorial board of the seniors newspaper, The Voice for Island Seniors, for many years. The Voice for Island Seniors is a supplement publication published each month in The Guardian newspaper. Both Martha and John were also among those honoured in 2005 by the PEI Seniors Federation.
“On behalf of the Department of Community Services, Seniors and Labour and Government, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Martha McNab Fraser and John Murray Alexander Ewart,” said Minister Sherry. “They will be surely missed and remembered by many Islanders who enjoyed reading their columns over the years.“
