PEI Liquor Commission Presents the 2010 Festival of Wines

The PEI Liquor Control Commission proudly presents the 2010 Festival of Wines, an extravaganza where you can explore the exciting world of wine and taste from more than 200 limited-quantity wines. Limited quantities of each of these wines will be offered for sale in the on-site retail boutique.

The 2010 Festival of Wines features some exciting changes. The Festival includes wines from around the world, but for the first time ever, the Festival will highlight wines from a featured region and this year we invite you to Discover California. As well, the PEI Shellfish Association has joined the Festival and will be on-site promoting Island oysters.

The Festival of Wines consists of three tasting sessions:

Friday afternoon, June 18 - 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. - New Session

Friday evening, June 18 - 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Saturday evening, June 19 - 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

The official opening of the 2010 Festival of Wines is slated for Friday afternoon at 12:45 p.m., with the Festival getting underway at 1 p.m. To make the path to wine discovery a leisurely and educational experience, the Commission will be limiting the number of tickets (750) available for each tasting session. Please make sure you purchase your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are $50 per person and are available at any of our retail liquor stores or at the Civic Centre box office during their normal hours of operation.

As a new addition to the 2010 Festival of Wines people are invited to join sommelier Jean-Sebastien Morin for Tasting Like a Pro, a complimentary one hour interactive workshop prior to each tasting session to help you get the most out of your Festival of Wines experience. (Free with the purchase of your Wine Festival ticket; by registration only as limited seating is available. For more details and to register, call 902-368-5710.)

During each of our tasting sessions, silent auction items will be offered to the public with bids closing at the end of each evening session. All proceeds from the Silent Auction will be given to the Hospice Palliative Care Association of PEI (Island Hospice Association). As well, works of art from some of PEI’s finest artists will be on display during the show and available for purchase – an exercise that has been well-received by the public in the past.

In conjunction with the 16th annual Festival of Wines, the PEI Festival of Wines Dinner in Support of the Culinary Student Fund will be held Thursday evening at the Atlantic Tourism and Hospitality Centre on the Charlottetown waterfront beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
