May 31, 2010 * Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]Islanders are now only a click away from all the information they need to safely negotiate a roundabout, thanks to a new website launched today by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. The website contains the rules of the road for both single and dual-lane roundabouts as well as a helpful animated tutorial that takes drivers through every step. The website can be found at www.gov.pe.ca/roundabouts. “Many Islanders have had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with single lane roundabouts over the last few years,” says Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Ron MacKinley. “But there are still many others who have never driven through a single or dual-lane roundabout. We feel this new website will give drivers the information they need to pass through either type safely and efficiently.” New roundabouts are being constructed in several locations on Prince Edward Island this summer. The biggest project will see two dual lane roundabouts built along the Charlottetown Perimeter Highway at the intersections of Exhibition Drive and Garfield Street. The animated tutorial on the website was designed with these new dual-lane roundabouts in mind. “We wanted to give Islanders plenty of time to learn the rules of the road for roundabouts,” says Minister MacKinley. “This website combined with an upcoming advertising campaign will give Islanders a head start so they can be ready to drive a roundabout later this summer.”Media Contact: Andrew Sprague
