Health and Wellness Minister, Carolyn Bertram, is pleased to recognize May 10 -16 as National Nursing Week.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for the very important role nurses play in the Prince Edward Island health system,” says Minister Bertram. “Our nurses deserve recognition for their commitment to their profession. We should all take the time this week to acknowledge nurses and to say thank you for their essential role in providing comfort, care and services to their patients on a daily basis.”
This year’s theme for National Nursing Week is Nursing: You Can’t Live Without It! The theme reflects the value of the profession to the health system and celebrates the largest group of health-care providers in PEI, who each day make enormous contributions to the health and lives of Islanders. Currently, there are 1,261 registered nurses and 516 licensed practical nurses working in the public sector in a variety of healthcare settings across the Island.
Nurses help many Islanders face immense challenges caused by health issues they, or their families, may be dealing with. The professionalism, care and comfort nurses provide everyday are essential to their patients’ well-being. It takes a very skilled and special person to do this job well.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all Island nurses for the value they bring to patients, families and communities across the province,” said Minister Bertram. “I know Islanders are very appreciative of nurses for their contribution and dedication to our One Island Health System.”
