Island Companies Attending Seafood Show

Prince Edward Island Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair is leading a delegation of seafood businesses to the International Boston Seafood Show which is being held March 14 to 16. The show is North America’s largest seafood event, attracting some 16,000 buyers and sellers from 90 countries.

“This is an outstanding opportunity to showcase the high quality and value of our seafood products, connect with existing customers and develop new and expanded markets,” said Minister LeClair. “The provincial government is pleased to work with fishers, processors and other industry representatives to promote our products to markets around the world.”

This year, a Prince Edward Island pavilion has been established by Innovation PEI to feature local companies and their products. Companies exhibiting at the pavilion are Ocean Choice International, BJ Trading and Marketing, Minigoo Fisheries, PEI Mussel King, Future Seafoods, the Culinary Institute of Canada (Smart Kitchen), Atlantic Aqua Farms, Prince Edward Aqua Farms Partnership and JP Shellfish (Confederation Cove.)

Other Prince Edward Island companies and organizations attending the show are Royal Star Foods, Mariner Seafoods, Ocean Pride, Island Oyster Growers Group, L&C Fisheries, Bulk Carriers, Seafood Express, Charlottetown Metal Products, the Mussel Industry Council, the Prince Edward Island Seafood Processors Association and the Prince Edward Island Fishermen’s Association.

While in Boston, Mr. LeClair will also be meeting with other government and business representatives to discuss market and trade issues.

“Given current economic conditions, we need to aggressively pursue all avenues to promote and market our seafood products, services and equipment,” said Minister LeClair. “My department, in conjunction with Innovation PEI, is pleased to support the industry and we are looking forward to a successful few days in Boston.”
