Minister Congratulates ECMA Participants

* Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]
Congratulations to all involved with Prince Edward Island’s successful participation in the East Coast Music Awards this past weekend in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Vessey.

“There is big talent on this small Island,” said Minister Vessey. “As Prince Edward Island captured five awards on Sunday at the annual East Coast Music Awards, it clearly demonstrates the talent coming from our Island artists is among the best in Atlantic Canada. We are excited to host the 2011 ECMAs and showcase many of our Island musicians and talent.”

Catherine MacLellan won female solo recording of the year and folk recording of the year for Water in The Ground. Lennie Gallant won roots/traditional solo recording of the year for If We Had A Fire. The Bluegrass recording of the year was picked up by The Grass Mountain Hobos for ZOOT!

During the ECMA Industry Awards, Doug Gallant of the Charlottetown Guardian was named ECMA Media Personality of the Year.

The ECMA awards show broadcast on-line featured a range of PEI talent and reminded viewers that Charlottetown would be the host city of the event in April 2011.
