Four projects in Kings County will receive funding under the provincial government’s Rural Action Plan. The announcement was made by Premier Robert Ghiz on Thursday during a tour of the facilities.

“Investing in our rural communities is a key priority of the provincial government,” said Premier Ghiz. “I want to commend the sponsors of these projects for their initiative and the spirit of community that is so evident.”

In Murray River, Premier Ghiz, along with Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair and Belfast-Murray River MLA Charles McGeoghegan, announced funding of $61,364 for renovations and upgrades for the Murray River Hall.

In Souris, Premier Ghiz and Minister LeClair were joined by Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell where funding was announced for three projects. The Harbourview Training Centre will receive a total of $190,669 for the construction of a new workshop and retail area and the provision of wheelchair access.

The Souris Group Home Association will receive a total of $104,934 for the construction of a recreation room with a wheelchair accessible washroom.

The Fortune Community Club will receive a total of $124,239 for renovations and the construction of an outdoor rink.

The provincial contributions for all four projects are from Skills PEI and the Community Development Fund. The sponsors are also contributing financially to the projects.

“We are pleased to partner with local groups to undertake these much-needed and worthwhile projects,” said Minister LeClair. “Support for local projects such as these is one of the 40 actions outlined under the Rural Action Plan.”
