Seven new works have been added to the Provincial Art Bank, bringing the total number of pieces in the provincial collection to over 130. Tourism and Culture Minister, Robert Vessey, announced the selection of the works today.
“The Art Bank encourages the development of artistic excellence, while allowing us to showcase Island artists in public buildings,” said Minister Vessey. “Prince Edward Island has many talented and skilled artists and I am very pleased that we have been able to acquire additional visual pieces for the Provincial Art Bank.”
An independent jury made the selection from the 79 pieces which were submitted by 32 artists for consideration. The works purchased are:
1. Cabot Beach – Oil on Linen by Greg Garand of Indian River
2. Test Site – Oil on Plywood by Stephen MacInnis of Charlottetown
3. Showing Off – Batik on Cotton by Sylvia Ridgway of Victoria
4. Andi’s Apples – Mixed Media by Nigel Roe of Brackley Beach
5. Sea Breeze – Glass by Marcela Rosemberg of Stratford
6. Mackerel – Giclée by Lionel F. Stevenson of Charlottetown
7. Building the Market – Pigmented Pulp by Shayli Vere of Kensington
“This wonderful program allows us to make Island art an integral part of the workplace and displays our visual artists to both staff and the public,” said Minister Vessey. “Our Art Bank now features more than 130 works, which are proudly displayed throughout government buildings across the province for all Islanders to enjoy.”
The Art Bank program has been in place for almost 25 years; during that time it has grown to be an extensive collection from approximately 75 Island artists. For more information, visit: www.gov.pe.ca/go/artbank.
