Prince Edward Island will take centre stage at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games on February 18 - PEI Day at the Olympics.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Prince Edward Island to garner exposure on an international scale,” said Premier Robert Ghiz.
PEI Day at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics will see a series of highly promoted activities and events taking place during the day’s schedule that are centered around Prince Edward Island. This includes a custom designed PEI Tourism video that will be shown to the thousands of spectators at Olympic venues across Vancouver and Whistler.
Atlantic Canada House will feature its daily schedule around Prince Edward Island, highlighting our culture, industry and tourism with unique PEI experiences, a special culinary menu of PEI products and musical performances by Island artists including Vishten, John Connolly, Grass Mountain Hobos and Two Hours Traffic.
Island artists Lennie Gallant and the Confederation Centre Young Company will also perform during the live Victory Ceremony at BC Place that night. This event will be broadcasted across the nation on CTV at 10:30 ADT.
“Being a part of Canada’s Games is a one-of-a-kind experience,” said Premier Ghiz. “I hope that all Islanders will take part in festivities planned at home.”
While the world’s focus is on Vancouver, celebrations will also be happening across the Island on PEI Day. The Cities of Charlottetown and Summerside will each host PEI Day celebrations, along with the Communities of O’Leary, Murray River, Murray Harbour and Crapaud. Various organizations across the province will also be celebrating PEI Day at their respective events, including the PEI Curling Association, the Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce and PEI 4-H.
