Montague Officially Opens Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre and Montague Rotary Library

Montague is celebrating with a fun-filled family day to mark the completion of the new state-of-the-art sports arena and library complex.

The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) on behalf of Minister Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, Belfast - Murray River MLA Charles McGeoghegan on behalf of Honourable Ron MacKinley, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, and Montague Mayor Richard Collins cut the ceremonial ribbon today to officially open the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre and Montague Rotary Library.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to partner on initiatives that enhance the quality of life for Islanders and keep Island communities vibrant and strong,” said Minister Moore. “The Cavendish Farms Montague Wellness Centre will benefit the residents of Montague and surrounding areas for years to come.”

“The provincial government’s financial support for this project is proof of our commitment to enhance recreational facilities for the health and well-being of all Islanders,” said MLA Charles McGeoghegan. “And, through our support of Montague Rotary Library we are also asserting our government’s commitment to strengthen the cultural and social integrity of rural communities across the province.”

Through the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF), the Federal Government, the Government of Prince Edward Island and the Town of Montague contributed $2,246,494 each towards the $6,739,482 project.

“All those who visit Montague will be impressed by this eye-catching and spacious facility which blends in with the town’s landscape,” said Montague Mayor Richard Collins. “Montague can now boast a state of the art recreational and community facility under one roof for all citizens to enjoy.”

The 43,670 square foot complex includes a 520-seat regulation size arena plus 46 seats in a heated room overlooking the ice surface, four men’s and two women’s dressing rooms, community space, meeting rooms, offices, kitchen facilities, two indoor walking tracks and a large lobby.

The new 3,000 square foot library includes space for literary activities and recreation. The complex is located next to the location of the new Montague High School which is currently under construction.
