Limited edition Prince Edward Island Olympic Pins have been designed to commemorate the Province’s involvement with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
“The pins will be circulated around the Games and will be an opportunity for us to showcase our Island pride and Olympic spirit to the world,” said Premier Ghiz. “The Games are an opportunity for Prince Edward Island to reach an international audience and the pins will leave a lasting impression.”
In total, three pins have been produced combining the emblems of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games with Prince Edward Island’s Coat of Arms.
Prince Edward Island’s Coat of Arms was granted Armorial Bearings in 1905 by His Late Majesty King Edward VII and depicts a mature oak tree, originally representing England, overlooking three young saplings used to represent Prince Edward Island’s three counties.
In addition to pins heading out to Vancouver, limited edition pins will be drawn for at Olympic Spirit Skates taking place across the province. The skates are free to the public and will include prize draws for the Prince Edward Island Olympic Pins and Vancouver 2010 Red Mittens. Everyone is encouraged to lace up their skates and show their Olympic spirit by wearing red.
