The Provincial Fire Marshal’s Office is warning Islanders that some power adapters and chargers may overheat and catch fire.
The Souris Fire Department received a 911 call at 0638 hours Tuesday December 1, 2009 and responded to a structure fire in a family dwelling in Souris River.
“The Fire Marshal’s Office has ruled the fire accidental with the cause contributed to a fault in a power cord (charger) for a lap top,” said Dave Rossiter, Deputy Fire Marshal. “Fire damage is extensive throughout the dwelling.”
The Fire Marshal’s office is reminding everyone to exercise caution when using electric chargers such as those used for cell phones, computers, games and toys. “Check chargers frequently for wear, don’t leave chargers unattended, and immediately unplug chargers that are hot to the touch,” said Rossiter.
