Exhibitors from four provinces were represented in the poultry show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. Among them were exhibitors from Prince Edward Island. Located in a prime location, the poultry show is always a very popular attraction at the fair. Island exhibitors once again had a very successful showing.
Trevor MacDonald of Murray River had the following placings: Silver Spangled Hamburg – first (breed champion and champion Continental division) and second cockerels and first (reserve breed champion) and second pullets; A.O.V. Hamburg – first hen and first pullet; Black Tailed White Japanese Bantam – first hen and first pullet; A.O.V. Japanese Bantam – first (reserve breed champion) cock, second hen, first cockerel, and first pullet; White Plymouth Rock Bantam – second hen; Hamburg Bantam – first cock and first (breed champion) hen; Chantecler Bantam – first (breed champion and champion Any Other Comb Clean Leg division), first hen, first (reserve breed champion) cockerel, and first pullet; Ice Pigeon – first (breed champion) and second (reserve breed champion) hens; Komorner Tumbler Pigeon – first (breed champion) cock and first (reserve breed champion) hen.
Stephen Webster from Tarantum had the second cock and first hen in the Golden Sebright Bantam class. The hen was also named breed champion and reserve Rose Comb Clean Leg Bantam. His entry in the A.O.V. Cochin Bantam class placed first hen and was reserve breed champion. Webster took first and second cocks, first and second hens, first and second cockerels, and first and second pullets in the A.O.V. Feather Leg Bantam class with his Salmon Faverolles. The Faverolle cock was breed champion and reserve champion of the Feather Leg division while his first place pullet was reserve breed champion. In the class for Jacobin pigeons, he had first (breed champion) cock and first (reserve breed champion) hen.
Jack and Ben Perry of Tignish showed in the Birchen Modern Game Bantam class where they won second cockerel as well as second, third, and fourth pullets. Their Black East Indie ducks placed third old male, second and third old female, and third young male.
Lower Montague's Doug King had five placings with his Pekin ducks. They were: fourth old male, fourth old female, third young male, and third and fourth young female. King had a very good day with his market lambs at the Royal. In the class for Suffolk wethers, he took the red ribbon. A second first prize red ribbon went to King for his market lamb in the 81-90 pound class. In the class for lambs weighing 91-100 pounds, he garnered a fifth. A second prize went to his lamb in the 100-plus pound lamb class. Finally, in the pen of three lambs (average weight 81-100 pounds), he took second.
