North Rustico Fire Department receives Island Community Fund Support

The province is providing $74,200 through the Island Community Fund to the North Rustico Fire Department to ensure they have the proper training and equipment to serve their community.

“Volunteer Fire Fighters provide an invaluable service to our One Island Community,” said the Honourable Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour. “The Province is pleased to contribute this much-needed funding to ensure our fire fighters have the necessary equipment and training to perform their job.”

The total cost of this project will be $98,900, with a provincial contribution of $74,200 and the Community of North Rustico contributing the remaining $24,700. The project will include the purchasing of Jaws of Life and Spreader equipment, installation of a new communications system and training for the Fire Chief.

Committed to in Budget 2008, the Island Community Fund represents a provincial investment of $27.5 million towards the infrastructure needs of Prince Edward Island communities. The fund includes an eligible category for community safety/security and numerous fire departments from across the province have made application and are receiving financial support through this program. Over the past year, the province has approved over $680,000 for fire related equipment and facility upgrades under this program.
