May 27, 2009 The 15th Annual Prince Edward Island World Wine Festival is taking place this Friday and Saturday, May 29-30, at the Civic Centre in Charlottetown. More than 180 wines from around the world will be available for tasting and purchasing during the two-day event. The wines available at the Festival are new to the Prince Edward Island marketplace and will be available at the Civic Centre Boutique at a 15% discount. In addition to the wide range of wines from many of the leading wine-producing countries and wineries in the world, this year’s Festival will again include a silent auction of wine-related products with all proceeds donated to the Island Hospice Association. Silent auction items include signature wines from some of the most respected wineries in Europe and one-of-a-kind items which will be on display throughout the Festival. Approximately half of these items will be sold through the silent auction Friday evening and the remaining half will be sold at the close of Saturday’s tasting session. This year’s Festival also features an art exhibit and the sale of works from some of PEI’s finest artists. These works can be purchased from the artists at the Festival. The first tasting session is Friday from 7 - 10 p.m. and second session runs Saturday from 7 - 10 p.m. The Civic Centre Wine Boutique is open Friday 4 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. and Saturday 1 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Tickets for the tasting sessions are available at all PEILCC stores and at the Civic Centre.
