PEILCC and Habitat for Humanity Partner in Unique Fundraiser

The PEI Liquor Control Commission (LCC) is contributing $26,000 towards homes that will be built for two Island families by Habitat for Humanity.

The money was raised through a promotion at PEI liquor stores where customers bought tickets on a portable wine cooler stocked with wine.

Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning, the ministry responsible for the LCC, said the unique fundraising partnership between LCC and Habitat for Humanity will help improve the lives of Island families.

“Habitat for Humanity does very important work helping working families who can’t afford a conventional mortgage to build affordable housing,” said the Minister. “I commend all those involved in this very worthy fundraising project, those who organized it, the suppliers who made donations and all the Islanders who contributed to it.”

Wendi Poirier, executive director of Habitat for Humanity, said the donation is a significant boost to funding their 2009 projects.

“We really appreciate the donation made by the LCC that will help an Island family build affordable housing,” said Poirier. “It is always a challenge for our organization to raise funds. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the project and the LCC for choosing Habitat as the beneficiary of their fundraising activities.”
