A global leader in information technology continues to grow in Prince Edward Island.

CGI Group Inc. is transferring an additional 45 employees to work with more than 110 employees currently working at its offices in Stratford, Prince Edward Island.

The CGI employees coming to the province are relocating from several different locations and will be supporting one of CGI’s major customers in the financial services industry. The work is highly technical in nature and will help the company secure new contracts.

Hon. Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning, said the influx of new employees and their families is a positive sign for Prince Edward Island’s growing information technology sector which is highlighted in the provincial economic and innovation strategy, "Island Prosperity: A Focus For Change."

“Prince Edward Island continues to be an attractive place for people to live and work and we are pleased to welcome new people to our Island community,” said Minister Campbell. “The Government of Prince Edward Island is committed to working with leading companies such as CGI to develop an even stronger workforce and attract new employees. Training is an essential part of a company’s ability to succeed in a competitive global market. The fact that this work is happening here is positive news for the Island’s economy.”

CGI PEI began operations at the Atlantic Technology Centre in Charlottetown on April 1, 2006, and recruited more than 100 highly skilled employees within 100 days. In January, 2007, the company moved to a new 15,000 square foot location in Stratford, PEI. CGI PEI is servicing several major clients from the Stratford location in software development, application maintenance and technical support.

“The addition of Prince Edward Island to our global delivery network has enabled CGI clients to take advantage of our unique nearshore value proposition,” said Craig Leech, Senior Vice-President of CGI in Atlantic Canada. “Our Island professionals have a proven track record of delivering high quality work to major corporations enabling us to win this new business for Atlantic Canada. We look forward to more CGI clients discovering and taking advantage of CGI’s growing presence here.”
