Liquor Commission Announces Product Price Adjustments

The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) announced retail price adjustments today on beer and spirits products. Effective May 1, retail prices on 12-pack bottled beer products will increase 24 cents with retail pricing on 12-pack canned beer remaining unchanged. The Commission’s 750 milliliters spirits products will increase an average of 49 cents to $1.00, while some 1.14 litre spirits products will increase an average of $1.00 to $1.50.

According to the PEILCC, it has been almost two years since the last price adjustment. Like other provinces and territories, Prince Edward Island is applying modest retail price increases at the request of suppliers to help offset increased product, packaging, packing and transportation costs.

Overall, PEILCC retail spirits pricing remains, on average, slightly lower on a per volume basis than both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The PEILCC is also the lowest priced retailer of domestic bottled and canned beer in the region.

The PEILCC is one of the largest retailers in Prince Edward Island and continues to help support important government services such as health and education. The PEILCC employs more than 300 Islanders and offers products from around the world through 19 Commission retail stores and one agency store. In 2009, the Commission will offer residents and visitors a record number of more than 1,300 listed products.
