Minister MacKinley Announces Third Round of Road Construction Tenders

* Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]
Tomorrow, Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley will issue another round of tenders for road and bridge construction on Prince Edward Island. The work will see major improvements to important roads for rural Islanders and for the Island’s primary industries, and it will improve the overall safety of the Island’s highway network.

“This round of road construction tenders is a prime example of this government’s commitment to rural Prince Edward Island,” says Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley. “By investing in rural infrastructure, we are sending a clear message that the prosperity of rural Prince Edward Island is a top priority.”

Highlighted in this round of road construction tenders are major repairs to two sections of Route 225, the Kinkora Road which is a busy collector highway, reconstruction on three sections of Route 2, and the replacement of the Norring Road Bridge in Cape Traverse.

“The federal government has approved so-called ‘stimulus’ funding budgeted for this year,” says Minister MacKinley. “My Department has additional projects ready to go, and I’m looking forward to working with Minister Gail Shea to make further road and bridge construction announcements in the near future.”

A full list of the new tenders will be in Island newspapers tomorrow and will be posted online at www.gov.pe.ca/tenders.
