February 20, 2009 The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission is pleased to advise that it will be launching a province-wide Support Safe Grad fund-raising campaign on Monday, February 23, 2009, announced Hon. Allan Campbell, Minister Responsible for the Liquor Control Commission. “Until March 31, customers of our liquor stores will be able to support safe grad celebrations by donating $1 at their local liquor store with all donations then being distributed to high schools planning alcohol-free graduation celebrations.” PEILCC liquor stores will provide sample-sized packages of chocolates to customers as a thank you for their donation. “We hope, with our customers’ support, that this new initiative might become an annual campaign and part of the Commission’s public safety and social responsibility program to promote the responsible use of beverage alcohol – a program that includes the prevention of underage drinking and promotion of zero consumption for minors,” commented Brooke MacMillan, CEO of the Liquor Control Commission. The contributions by liquor store customers will supplement funds collected by parents, students and teachers who volunteer year round to raise monies for safe grad activities. One hundred per cent of the donations for the Support Safe Grad program will be distributed to high schools hosting safe grad events.Media Contact: James MacLeod
