Province and the PEI Nurses’ Union Reach Tentative Agreement

* Health [to Jan 2010]
The Province of Prince Edward Island and the PEI Nurses’ Union (PEINU) reached a tentative agreement on a three-year Collective Agreement yesterday evening.

The agreement provides for general increased economic adjustments for all Registered Nurses (RN) as well as retention benefits for senior RN’s.

Minister of Health, Doug Currie, is out of province today but he said, “Nurses play an essential role in the delivery of health care in Prince Edward Island. I am extremely pleased that the parties have been able to negotiate a tentative agreement to ensure we have appropriate retention and recruitment benefits in place and that compensation is competitive within the Atlantic region.”

The tentative agreement covers a three-year period from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2011.

The next step in this process is for PEINU members to ratify the agreement. That process will take place over the coming weeks.
