Radiologist Review Making Excellent Progress with help from Nova Scotia

* Health [to Jan 2010]
The Department of Health’s provincial diagnostic imaging review of a radiologist’s work is well underway with more than half of the general exams already reviewed and a number of reviews being done by radiologists in Halifax.

“I have to commend the work done by the physicians, staff and radiologists who work in the provincial diagnostic imaging program,” said Minister of Health, Doug Currie. “The professionals in the Department have implemented a comprehensive plan, which includes the acquisition of an independent radiologist, as well as the services of radiologists in Nova Scotia. I would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this review and the physicians and staff here in PEI and in Nova Scotia for their extra effort over the past few weeks.”

After nearly two weeks, the independent radiologist has been able to complete 2500 of the 5700 images that are under review. Patients whose tests have already been reviewed will receive letters indicating that the review of their exam has been completed and there are no changes in their report. The physician who initiated the exam will also be notified of the completion of the review.

“We are extremely pleased with the progress of the review,” said Jamie MacDonald, the Technical Director for Diagnostic Imaging on PEI. “We are very grateful to the group of radiologists in Nova Scotia who have agreed to assist us. We hope to have the review completed in the next few weeks; however, that will depend on how much time the radiologists from Nova Scotia can commit to this project.”
