Identification, Diligence and Awareness Training Sessions Being Offered

The PEI Liquor Control Commission will offer a training course on identification verification to owners of licensed premises on PEI. The courses will be held in O’Leary, Summerside and Montague on May 29, and two sessions will be held in Charlottetown May 30.

Richard Brown, Minister responsible for the Liquor Control Commission, said these courses help staff enforce the laws related to serving alcohol in licensed premises.

“Training staff on how to spot fake pieces of identification is a very effective way to prevent minors from entering licensed premises and consuming alcohol,” said Brown.

Raising awareness about the seriousness of underage drinking through initiatives like the identification training program is part of the Liquor Control Commission’s on-going campaign to ensure minors are not able to purchase liquor, said Brown.

“These training sessions will show employees how to quickly spot minors using identification cards that don’t belong to them,” said Wayne MacDougall, CEO of the Liquor Control Commission.

In addition to providing training sessions to licensees, Mr. MacDougall said Liquor Commission employees will also be offered this training to help ensure responsible retailing in liquor stores.

“This training coincides with our Check 25 program and will complement our continuing efforts to prevent minors from purchasing alcohol,” he said.

Although there are no fees for the training sessions, pre-registration is required. More information on the sessions will be sent to owners of licensed premises by the PEI Liquor Control Commission.
