Artwork Keepsake for Book Award Winners

* Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour [to Jan 2010]
Winners in the fiction and non-fiction categories of this year’s Prince Edward Island Book Award will each be presented with a piece of artwork commissioned specifically for the Book Award Program.

The artwork consists of a blue, green and yellow square glass plate, with a centre square depicting a variation of the book award logo. It sits on a stainless steel stand engraved with the words Book Award of PEI 2008 Prix du livre de l’Île-du-Prince-Edouard. The commission was awarded to artisans Marcela and Sergio Golod of Royal Glass Design in Stratford.

The 2008 Island Book Award winners will be selected based on the quality of the entire publication including the writing, design, illustration and overall presentation. Hon. Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour said the handcrafted pieces will be a beautiful keepsake for the award winners. A cash prize will also be awarded to each of the two winners.

“Prince Edward Island authors and editors help create a strong literary foundation for our province,” said Minister Bertram. “I am pleased we will offer original prizes this year to celebrate our province’s best in writing and publishing.”

Both fiction and non-fiction books are eligible, provided they were published during 2006 or 2007 and were produced by an Island author or editor. Deadline for submissions is May 1, 2008.
