The Provincial Board of Directors of the Federated Women’s Institute of Prince Edward Island is launching a special project for the Associated Country Women of the World on ACWW Day, April 29. ACWW is the largest international organization in the world for rural women, representing 430 societies in 70 countries. Prince Edward Island Women’s Institute is a member society of ACWW.
The Canada area project for the triennium, 2007 - 2010, is entitled Home Base Care for the Tsunami Affected Dalit Children in Nagapattinam District in India. This project for 65 Tsunami affected Dalit children will provide basic needs such as food, clothing, educational materials and medicine. The funding amount committed by Canada is $7,000.
“As we grasp this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these Dalit children, a challenge has been presented to the Women’s Institute branches across the province to parallel monetary donations with the blessing of your own children,” says Marie Kenny, President of the Prince Edwad Island Women’s Institute. “In recognition of ACWW Day, WI members are encouraged to donate $1 per child in April for the next three years.”
Women’s Institute members and friends are invited to an Awareness Tea at Royalty Centre, April 29 from 1-3 p.m. to celebrate the bigger picture with an official launch of the project at 2 p.m. Come and celebrate our global initiatives. Everyone is welcome.
