Today, Prince Edward Island’s Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Ron MacKinley, travels to Halifax for a meeting with the Federal Minister of Transport, Lawrence Cannon, the Federal Minister Responsible for ACOA, Peter MacKay, and other Atlantic Ministers of Transportation as a follow up on the Atlantic Gateway trade mission to India this past February.

“This meeting will give my government the opportunity to discuss next steps and to build on the momentum gained from the trade mission to India,” says Minister MacKinley. “We want to ensure that Prince Edward Island’s interests are clear in this whole discussion, and we want to make sure the Island sees the benefits the Atlantic Gateway can provide.”

In February, Minister MacKinley travelled to India with a large trade delegation from the Atlantic Provinces to help promote the Atlantic Gateway. Minister MacKinley used the opportunity to promote the Island’s agricultural sector as well as its burgeoning IT and bio-science industries. The overall goal of the mission was to show officials in India the benefits of using the east coast of Canada as a trade corridor to the rest of North America.

“The Island stands to benefit from the new jobs and new investment the Atlantic Gateway will provide,” says Minister MacKinley. “This meeting will help us map out the road ahead, and see what steps need to be taken to achieve our goals.”
