Hog Board Considering Options

* Agriculture and Forestry [to May 2015]
The Prince Edward Island Hog Commodity Marketing Board has responded to the rejection of the go-forward proposal presented by the board to the Prince Edward Island government to operate the NOFG hog plant in Charlottetown.

In a statement issued today, the board regrets that the offer made was not acceptable to the provincial government but at the same time feels that the money put on the table by the producers was considerable in light of the current economic and market conditions that are already resulting in farm loses in excess of $60 per head. The proposal as yet had not reached the point of being ratified by the general hog producing membership.

At this time, the board does not feel that increasing its offer is within its means and is considering its options.
