Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour Minister Hon. Carolyn Bertram announced today that Francois Caron will lead Team PEI as Chef de Mission for the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
“Francois Caron has experience as both Chef and Assistant Chef, and as an athlete at previous Canada Games,” said Minister Bertram. “I am confident he will work hard to ensure our own athletes, coaches and managers are fully prepared to compete at their best when we host the Canada Games next year.”
The Chef de Mission is the primary liaison between the 2009 Host Society and Team PEI. The Chef is responsible for overseeing the preparation of Team PEI in conjunction with the Provincial Canada Games Committee Inc. and the Provincial Sport organizations involved in the games.
Jo-anne Wallace will serve as Team PEI Assistant Chef de Mission for the 2009 Canada Games, Minister Bertram announced. Ms. Wallace was Assistant Chef for both the 2007 Winter Games in Whitehorse and the Summer Games in 2005, and on the Mission Staff for the three previous Games.
“I am grateful to both Francois and Jo-anne for agreeing to accept responsibility as leaders for our Mission Team,” Minister Bertram said. “Their willingness to work in these challenging roles will be a great benefit to our athletes and Team PEI as we prepare for the 2009 Games.”
