Murray Myles, Returning Officer, today announced the results of the first elections to the Prince Edward Island Cattle Producers Board.
Mr. Myles said that Peter Walker of Travellers Rest, Jamie Whalen of Vernon Bridge and Peter Verleun of Montague were elected by acclamation to represent cattle producers in Prince, Queens and Kings county respectively. As founding members, the terms in office of county representatives are one year for Prince county, two years for Queens county and three years for Kings county.
In addition, Cameron MacDonald of O’Leary, Ivan Johnson of Miscouche and Brian Morrison of Summerside were elected by acclamation to represent cattle producers at-large. Under the Cattle Marketing Board regulations, the terms of the three founding at-large members must be staggered from one to three years, with each term determined by resolution of the board at its first meeting in March 2008.
All six elected members will assume office at the first meeting of the board in March, 2008.
The Prince Edward Island Cattle Producers Board was created as a commodity board in January, 2007. The initial members of the board were the directors of the Prince Edward Island Cattlemen’s Association Inc. on the date the regulations came into force.
