Daily flights between Prince Edward Island and Ottawa should be a tremendous boost for the province, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
"After a great deal of negotiation over a short period of time, I am very pleased that Air Canada has agreed to begin daily flights between Charlottetown and the national capital," Premier Ghiz said.
"This new flight will help many Island businesses - and should also enhance tourism to the province."
Air Canada announced the new flights today - which will start May 1, 2008. The airline will use a 50-seat jet to provide the new service.
Earlier this year, successful negotiations with the airline resulted in year-round service between Toronto and Charlottetown.
"The continued build up of connections at the Charlottetown Airport is a very positive development, and the Airport Authority deserves a great deal of credit," Premier Ghiz said.
"I'm very pleased that all three partners were able to work together in making this new flight a reality."
