The Prince Edward Island Office of Public Safety is advising property owners to ensure that their white on blue civic number signs are in good condition, clearly legible and visible from the adjoining roadway.
Since the implementation of province-wide civic addressing in 2000, many civic number signs have deteriorated, become damaged or are missing. The civic number signs constitute an important component of the Province’s 911 Service, allowing emergency service providers to quickly find the location of an emergency.
The Province’s Emergency 911 Act requires property owners to display and maintain civic number signs in accordance with the Act and its regulations. To obtain a replacement sign, property owners can consult the yellow pages for a sign manufacturer, who are familiar with Provincial standards.
For questions concerning civic addressing or civic number signs, contact the PEI Office of Public Safety at 894-0385 or toll free at 1-877-894-0385.
