The Hillsborough Bridge expansion is the largest project ever undertaken by the Department of Transportation and Public Works. Presently, construction is in the 16th month of a 24 month schedule.
"I am pleased to report that the work on the Bridge is within budget and on schedule," noted Minister Currie.
"As Minister, I have had the opportunity to tour the site and can attest to its many challenges. The men and women working on the project can feel proud of what they are accomplishing."
Traffic is scheduled to be moved to new outside lanes by the end of November, 1997, and the last major work phase involving the original structure will begin.
"The travelling public and the business operators within the work zone have shown tremendous patience and cooperation during the past 16 months and, on behalf of the Department, I thank them," said Mr. Currie.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by July, 1998.
